This course explores current research in second language acquisition as it applies to classroom practice. Students are first introduced to foundational theories and perspectives seeking to shed light on the universal success of early developmental first language (L1) acquisition. Next, students will learn about the contributing factors and theoretical assumptions underlying the more variable success of second language (L2) acquisition. Finally, students will examine the effectiveness of the different approaches to second language teaching.
