This course is designed to help teachers identify types of learning problems that characterize students with mild disabilities and to introduce teachers to educational practices that influence the identification, placement, and teaching of students with mild disabilities. It also provides teachers with specific strategies and knowledge of materials which are important in meeting the needs of students with mild disabilities in a variety of classroom settings. Topics covered include overview of specific disabilities, teaching students with mild intellectual disabilities, teaching those with emotional disturbances, the inclusive classroom, classroom management, teaching social skills, and building family partnerships.
